Further to this, our strategic aims for thenext 3 years include a number of significant exciting growth projects bothwithin the countries we operate in and also expansion into new countries.  These projects will require a significant focuson skills development, not just at the managerial/leadership level but alsoacross all our spans and layers and, as such, we are looking for a seasoned HR Manager:Learning and Development.  The primaryfocus of this role will be Learning and Development but as a senior member of theHR team, the successful candidate will also be expected to contribute tobroader HR management responsibilities to support organisational priorities.

About the role

The HR Learning and Development Manager will lead on LivelyMinds’ L&D strategies and creating our practical on-the ground capabilitybuild initiatives that build our organisational capacity, drive performance,support career development and foster talent development. The role will alsosupport our Head of HR in implementing people strategies that attract, retain,and grow talent as well as taking a leading role in continuing to develop apositive workplace culture aligned with our organisational goals andaspirations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

L&D Strategy and Initiatives

·        Develop and Deliver L&D Strategy – Design,implement and evaluate a forward-looking L&D strategy that aligns withorganisational goals, support scaling ambitions and meet the needs of staff.

·        Create and Implement Programmes – Developmeaningful learning programmes (e.g. bootcamps, leadership pathways, newcountry cultural briefings etc) using cost effective blend of internal andexternal opportunities.

·        Assess Skills Gaps – Conduct skills andbehaviourial gap analysis to identify current and future development needs.

·        Measure and Improve Impact – Track effectivenessof training programmes through feedback and performance outcomes to refinelearning and training initiatives to ensure continuous improvement.

·        Foster a Learning Culture – Build a culture ofcontinous learning and high performance as well as engaging peer networks withother NGOs and monitoring best practices to introduce innovative practices.

Succession Planning and managing “people” risks

·        Strategic Talent Management – Collaborate withSMT to lead the organisation’s strategic approach to identifying talent forcritical and vulnerable roles leading to the development and implementation ofa robust succession plan and comprehensive capacity development plan to prepareidentifed successors.

·        Risk Mitigation and Retention – Proactivelymonitors and supports the management of potential ‘flight risks’, implementingtargeted retention strategies to keep key talents to preseve institutionalknowledge and maintain operational stability.

·        Leadership Development - Design and implement acomprehensive career path and development framework tailored to prepareemerging leaders. This includes structured learning experiences, mentorship andcoaching opportunities, and exposure to cross-functional challenges toaccelerate leadership readiness.

·        Targeted Learning Interventions - Usesperformance appraisal data to identify high-potential employees for successionplanning and to design targeted learning interventions that address performancegaps and drive continuous improvement.

Job Evaluation & Salary benchmarking

·        Create and mintain a robust salary structure - Developand maintain a fair, transparent and equitable salary structure that alignswith Lively Minds’ compensation philosophy, ensuring internal consistency andmarket competitiveness and recognition of individuals performance andcontributions.

·        Undertake regular salary benchmarking - Conductregular salary benchmarking, reviewing pay equity across roles and integratingcompensation with career progression to support employee motivation, retentionand organisational growth.

Measurement and Quality Assurance of L&D Programmes

·        Implement L&D quality assurance systems - DeployL&D quality assurance systems including learner feedback and trainer evaluations.

·        Develop and main a robust feedback loops - Establishand maintain a robust feedback loops to systematically capture insights fromstaff and relevant stakeholders and use this feedback continuously inform andenhance the design and delivery of training programmes in alignment with evolvingneeds and priorities.

·        Undertake regular audits and impact assessment -Conduct regular audits and impact assessment of learning programmes to ensurethey are delivering the intended outcomes and driving measurable improvement inperformance.

General HR Responsibilities

·        Track HR metrics (turnover, absenteeism,training ROI, etc.) to provide meaningful insights to inform decision-makingand continuous improvement.

·        Provide regular HR reports and insights to Headof HR for decision-making.

·        Champion and monitor progress on DEI initiativesand report on outcomes.

·        Supervise the HR & Admin. Officer to ensurework done is of the highest standards.

 

Support the Head of HR to:

·        Develop and implement HR strategies in alignmentwith organisational goals and objectives including supporting organisationalchange and culture building intiatives.

·        implement end-to-end recruitment processesincluding seamless induction of new joiners and checking quality ofinductions.  

·        Management of disciplinary and grievance issues.

·        Coordinate the onboarding ofcontractors/consultants engaged by Lively Minds (in existing countries and innew entry countries) and ensure the “live and breathe” the LM values andbehaviours.

·        Design and implement employee engagementinitiatives to boost employees motivation, wellbeing, and retention.

·        Maintain, update and ensure compliance of HRpolicies and procedures.

Technical abilities

Essential

·        At least 2-3 years in a similar role with anadditional 4-6 year background in a more generalised HR position.

·        Deep understanding and application of learningconcepts, frameworks, theories, instructional design, and organizationalneeds. 

·        Experience in conducting job evaluation and developmentof salary structure based on salary benchmarking and localisation acrossmultiple countries.

·        Experience in succession plan development andtalent development.

·        Experience in creating and implementing L&Dstrategies for an organisation that spans multiple countries (preferably withinthe Global South).

·        Experience in developing and delivering trainingprogrammes and achieving proven results.

·        Good understanding of the labour laws in Ghana,Uganda and UK.

·        Ability to manage a complex and varied work loadand to work under pressure.

Desirable

·        Experience coaching others, a coachingcertification is desirable.

·        Experience in change management.

·        Behaviour-changeexperience.

Worked in a charity or NGO operatingwithin or across the Global South

Bookkeeper
Ghana-Bolga

Position:       Bookkeeper.

Reports to:   Finance& Administration Officer.

Based:           Based in Bolga withresponsibilities covering the Upper East and Upper West Regions.

Salary:           GBP2,542.30 gross per annum

Contract:      Fixed-term contract for 2 years with a possibility of renewal

Hours:           Full-time (8am to 4pm Monday to Friday,with one hour for lunch).

Our mission is to get quality early childhood development to millions of rural preschoolers by activating the power of parents. We couple our evidence-based ECD programming with innovative rigorous implementation systems to scale quickly, cheaply and sustainably.

We currently implement at scale through two proven models: scaling through government and scaling through radio. Through these we are working in Ghana and Uganda and currently reaching over 120k parents and 300,000 children per year through the government uptake model, and over 2 million parents through our radio programme.

About the role

The Bookkeeper will be an integral member of a dynamic and committed finance team, working closely with both finance and programme staff including the field officers to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations in line with statutory and donor requirements as well as the organisation’s internal policies.

The role cuts across finance, administration, and transactional activities such as petty cash management, expense reconciliations, and maintaining accurate financial records. It requires exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Operating in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, this position calls for an energetic, responsive, proactive, and solution-orientedteam player with a strong ‘can-do’ attitude. Success in this role demands reliability and the ability to work independently while maintaining close coordination with colleagues and other departments.

You will be based in Bolga but work within a larger financial team that operates in Tamale and Techiman.

Main duties and responsibilities

Transaction Processing

  • Process and prepare financial and business forms to verify account balances, facilitate purchases, and support operational activities.
  • Perform routine calculations and prepare analysis reports as requested by the Finance Manager.
  • Monitor and help manage individual accounts, ensuring timely updates and accuracy.
  • Collect, verify, and enter data into financial spreadsheets, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Support staff in completing and filing business process forms, receipts, and payment vouchers.
  • Maintain up-to-date and complete financial records for easy retrieval.
  • Maintain a well-organised filing system for all finance documents, indexed chronologically for easy retrieval during internal and external audits.

 

Compliance with Policies and Procedures

·        Review requisitions to ensure correct coding and appropriate authorisations before processing.

·        Reconcile discrepancies or errors by liaising with relevant employees and/or clients.

·        Report any irregularities, policy breaches, or suspected wrongdoing to the appropriate authorities in a timely manner.

·        Develop and maintain a tracking system for statutory returns to ensure compliance with all statutory obligations.

·        Monitor adherence to Lively Minds’ financial policies and procedures, escalating instances of non-compliance to the supervisor.

·        Ensure records are audit-ready and in full compliance with record keeping requirements.

Teamwork and Collaboration

·        Support Finance & Administration Officers in preparing regular financial reports.

·        Provide guidance and responses to finance-related queries from stakeholders and staff.

·        Participate actively in finance department meetings, preparing accurate minutes and tracking follow-up actions.

·        Recommend changes or process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

You may be assigned any other responsibility in agreement with your line manager, in contribution to Lively Minds' work and recognition of your experience and skills. It is therefore expected that staff to be flexible and willing to contribute to the work of the wider team. Also, the JD may be reviewed from time to time to reflect evolving organisational needs.

Experience and skills

Essential experience and skills

·        Qualifications: HND in Accounting with 2+ years experience, or Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) with 3+ years experience. Higher qualifications may compensate for work experience.

·        Experience of coding transactions using chart of accounts.

·        Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural environment.

·        Ability to prioritise tasks to meet multiple deadlines.

·        Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment while consistently delivering work of the highest quality.

·        Good time management and willingness to work extra hours when the need arises.

·        English language proficiency.

·        High level of precision in financial data entry, with proficiency in using standard accounting and data management software.

Desirable experience and skills

·        Experience in using MS Office suite, especially high familiarity with MS Excel.

·        Familiarity with accounting software such as Xero or Quickbooks.

·        Good communication skills and ability to present information in graphs and charts for the understanding of non-finance persons.

·        Ability to detect and resolve discrepancies quickly.

You will be expected to perform against the Lively Minds Competencies.
