short volunteer opportunities in Ghana

If you and your family are on holiday in Ghana why not spend a day or more volunteering with us?  You'll get a unique insight into “real life” in Ghana by visiting off-the-beaten-track rural villages and getting involved in our community education programme.

Where & when can I visit?

We have offices in Tamale & Bolgatanga and can organise visits from either locations.

As our Play Schemes all take place in school kindergartens this opportunity is only available during school term time.

Why volunteer with Lively Minds?

This opportunity gives you the unqiue chance to experience village life in Ghana, make connections with our staff & beneficiaries and see the difference a small charity can make.

The time you spend with the Mothers who run the Play Schemes and our staff is hugely beneficial and very much appreciated by them - as it shows them, and their communities, that what they are doing is worthwhile.

We're a small organisation and by volunteering with us you will be directly supporting our beneficiaries and projects.

Sample Itinerary - 1 day visit

8.00am:  Pick up - You will be met in the morning by one of our staff members and will receive a briefing to give you an understanding of the challenges affecting early child development and how the programme empowers communities to solve these.

8.45am - midday:  Field visit:  - You will travel with a staff member to one of our beneficiary villages - about 45mins from our office.  In the village you will work alongside our staff and will have the opportunity to:-

  • Observe and join in at a community-run Play Scheme or observe and participate in a training workshop for Mothers

  • Meet the Mothers who run the Play Schemes and go on home visits and village tours with them.

Lunch:  You will have lunch in a local restaraunt and will have the chance to sample traditional Ghanaian cuisine.

2-4pm  - Debrief:   You will be involved in a debrief session with staff members. You will have the opportunity to share what you have seen, ask any questions and find out more.

We can arrange multi-day visits - and you will see difference aspects of the programme and travel to different communities.

What do  I need to bring with me?

We'll provide a local lunch and your transport, so all you need is some drinking water, sun cream & camera.   We ask that you do not give any donations or gifts to our beneficiaries as this can create conflict and can undermine the spirit of volunteerism and self-help that is so key to our work.

Donation

We ask you to make for a donation of US$30 per person. This covers the costs of the day such as transport & lunch and the remainder goes straight into our funds where it will make a lasting difference to our beneficiaries.

How do I arrrange a visit?

Please email rory@livelyminds.org and let us know where you are staying and when you would like to visit.
